Surgical Collections at the University of Minnesota


  • The collection documents the history of the development of open-heart surgery and related technologies at the University of Minnesota.

  • The collection contains personal and professional correspondence, research and notes, and publications while at the University of Minnesota and during his retirement.

  • The collection consists primarily of correspondence files that were compiled during the period when Owen Harding Wangensteen was head of the Department of Surgery, 1941-1967.
